Te Māngai Pāho, has the primary function of promoting Māori language and Māori culture by making funds available for broadcasting and the production of programmes to be broadcast. It also makes funds available for online content, archiving and other activities to promote Māori language and culture.

Te Māngai Pāho is a Crown Entity funded by Parliament through Vote: Māori Development and is accountable for its conduct and performance to the Minister for Māori Development.

The core work of the agency is to manage over $59 million (GST exclusive) in funding contracts between the agency and various programme makers, producers, broadcasters and service providers.

As part of this work, Te Māngai Pāho manages a $750,000 (plus GST) pool of contestable funding for the production of independently made Māori language music tracks and music videos for distribution to the iwi radio network. The iwi radio network administers a music strategy for the roll out of funded music tracks.

Te Māngai Pāho operates an online funding system and applicants need to become registered providers on the system in order to apply for funding.

Please visit the website at http://funding.tmp.govt.nz/users/sign_up to register.

The three rounds for music and video funding in 2019 close on 31 January, 14 March and18 April 2019.
